It’s the end of the decade and, oh boy, have we ended it with a bang. An end-of-decade retrospective is sure to be in the works, but 2019 by its ownsome has felt like a very fitting encapsulation of the decade as a whole, with more ridiculous music headlines than you can point a stick at (December alone has given us Ellie Goulding and a lorry, and Mariah getting #1). A huge number of artists have seen their careers skyrocket either with some of the most accomplished albums they’ve made or simply on the back of single viral tracks. The biggest pop girls were back in full force this year, and it has been a fight to the death to see who has kept our attention. But more than ever, the list this year showcases the full breadth of the community’s tastes with some unlikely showings amongst the steadfast favourites too. I hope you all find something new to listen to as we welcome the new decade. May the rest of 2019 and the whole of 2020 treat you all well!
As always, I’d like to offer a huge thanks to all the other writing contributors to the list! In addition, thanks to all of the people on the subreddit who submitted for the final ranking, and for being such a wonderful community.
